5 Kid-Friendly Activities In Cairns

Cairns is a great place to take your kids to for a much-needed holiday. Best of all, you don’t have to spend a lot of money to ensure the family will have a great time. After all, the city is home to several tourist attractions and activities the entire family will enjoy.

Additionally, getting from one destination to the next is easy to do in Cairns. There are plenty of motorhomes for rent you can use so your entire family stays comfortable throughout the trip. Besides, you wouldn’t want to miss seeing Cairn’s beautiful landscape on the way, would you?

So without further ado, here’s our pick of top activities you, and most especially  your kids, will love while you’re in Cairns.

1. A Day At Cairns Esplanade

Apart from having a swimming lagoon big enough to fit 1,000 people, the Cairns Esplanade is also home to Muddy’s Playground, one of the best kids’ playgrounds in Australia.

It has everything to keep your little ones occupied for hours: playhouses, rope bridges, see-saws, flying fox, even an ankle-deep pool your kids can splash around in. You, on the other hand, can relax in one of the on-site cafes.

2. Go On A Safari Adventure

If you’ve always wanted to take the family on a safari but don’t have the budget to take them to Africa (not yet, at least), then Cairns is the perfect alternative. Wooroonooran Safaris top the list of family-friendly outdoor activities in the city.

These family-friendly safaris provide day tours through ancient forests, historic landmarks and scenic spots within Wooroonooran National Park.

3. Take The Kids Jungle Surfing

Cairns has more to offer than pristine white beaches. So try something new with your kids and take them on a jungle surfing adventure at Cape Tribulation Rainforest. Ride the zipline and “surf” across the lush jungle canopy.

Children as young as three years old can be safely strapped in for the zipline ride. The entire family will enjoy the two-hour ride because after all, you don’t get to jungle surf every day.

4. Chill Out At Chillagoe

Marvel at the limestone caves at Chillagoe-Mungana Karst Caves National Park. With over 600 caves to explore, your kids will not run out of interesting things to see and learn. They can also spend the day listening to stories about the town’s mining history and view ancient Aboriginal art.

At the end of the cave tour, don’t forget to take them to the mining museum for a complete day of learning and exploration.

5. Ride The Skyrail and Scenic Railway

If you want to take your kids to see panoramic views of Cairns and its surrounding towns, take them on a visit to the Skyway and Scenic Railway. The one hour and a half gondola ride will carry you over the lush rainforest and stopping twice mid-stations so you and your kids can go on a ranger-guided boardwalk tour.
