10 Campervan Rental Must-Haves

There’s no better way to welcome spring season than going on a road trip to Australia’s many scenic destinations with your friends or family. Whether you’re off to the beach this year or planning to drive your campervan rental to a national park and stay for a day or two, we’ve listed some motorhome travel must-haves to ensure a comfortable, stress-free spring holiday.

1. Portable Dehumidifiers

This nifty gadget is useful particularly if you rent a campervan with a shower. The small space can cause the humidity inside the vehicle to increase every time someone uses hot water for bathing, and a portable dehumidifier can easily fix this situation.

Keeping your devices (cell phones, tablets, etc.) fully charged throughout your trip is very important. Solar device chargers ensure that your devices won’t run out of power – at least, as long as the sun is out. These solar chargers are inexpensive, easy to use, portable and available in most electronics supply stores.

3. Portable Propane Grill

What’s a spring camping trip without outdoor grilling? While there are campervans that are equipped with indoor cooking equipment, grilling food outdoors truly help you enjoy your trip. Also, if you’re not up for lighting a campfire, a portable propane grill is perfect for your outdoor cooking needs.

4. Walkie-Talkies/Two-Way Radios

In the age of smartphones and tablet PCs, some may think that using two way radios very old school. But these devices are very handy for motorhome travellers. You can use them to communicate with your spotter when parking your campervan rental; keep in touch with your fellow travellers, especially if you’re staying in large national parks or if you’re stranded in an area with no mobile phone service. Oh, and your kids would love using them.

5. Bicycles

Apart from being able to enjoy some of Australia’s finest bike trails, bringing bicycles on your road trip is helpful for short errands. You can just ride back to the nearest store if there’s anything you need in your campsite. In addition, bicycles are helpful in emergency situations. You can just ride your bike and get help, if necessary.

6. Insect Repellent

You would spend a lot of time outdoors and soon would be a walking, breathing buffet line for mosquitoes. Make sure you protect yourself and your travel companions  by having a bottle or two of mosquito/insect repellent inside your campervan rental.

7. Portable Vacuum

Keep in in mind that you’d be parking your campervan rental in a campsite or national park. This means you and your travel companions would be tracking grass, dirt and mud all over the place and yes, you’d be tracking that mess into the vehicle’s interior.

While the campervan would be attended to and cleaned immediately upon return to the rental company, it’s better to keep the vehicle’s interior (or the floors, at least) tidy using a portable vacuum cleaner.

8. Cast Iron Pots And Pans

Campervan rentals (at least those that come with a kitchen) already come with cooking utensils. However, it would still be a good idea to bring your own cast iron pot or pan. After all, cast iron cookware are versatile kitchen tools. You can cook over the campervan’s built-in stove or over a campfire.

9. Folding Step

Folding steps are handy for a lot of things when you’re out for a campervan holiday. You can use it to reach high storage cabinets, setting up the campervan’s awning and countless other tasks.

10. Cleaning Wipes

From wiping hands to wiping down counter tops, cleaning wipes are very useful for almost any cleaning need. Regardless of your preferred brand, these handy packets always get the job done.
